Kiyomizu-dera Stage Viewpoint

Kiyomizu-dera's main hall stands on a wooden stage built out from the hillside in the Higashiyama district, held up by a lattice of joined pillars without a single nail, a technique dating to the temple's 1633 reconstruction. From 13 metres up, the stage looks out over a valley of maple and cherry trees to the city of Kyoto beyond, and is especially known for autumn foliage and spring blossom. The temple, founded in 780, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
