A grassy headland rising between the twin bays of Tanjung Aan on Lombok's south coast, Bukit Merese is reached by a short, easy climb of about fifteen minutes from the road. From the roughly 55-60 metre summit, a near-360-degree view takes in white sand coves, turquoise shallows and the open Indian Ocean, with the surf breaks around Kuta visible to the west. It has become the best-known sunset spot in the fast-developing Mandalika area, a short ride east of Kuta Lombok town.
